>>> What is CKI Service Week?
by Kristen Reed, CKI Service Committee Chairwoman, subregionf@circlek.org
CKI Service Week exists to increase awareness of CKI, the Kiwanis family and CKI’s service partners Better World Books, March of Dimes, Students Team Up to Fight Hunger and UNICEF on college campuses. CKI Service Week will be taking place this April 4–10, 2010, and culminating on Kiwanis One Day.During CKI Service Week up to 13,000 college students could participate/The event also is a chance for the incoming club leaders and the outgoing club leaders to collaborate and celebrate the most important thing about CKI—service. The 2008–09 Circle K International Board of Representatives thought CKI Service Week would bring CKI clubs together to do projects to benefit the organization’s service partners, bring the Kiwanis family together to make a difference with Kiwanis One Day and bring CKI together for one week to make a difference in the world. The board thought CKI needed a week to focus on what means the most to us, serving others and helping people.
By participating in CKI Service Week, clubs will be dedicating a week of service to their communities. In all, up to 13,000 college students could participate.
CKI Service Week is a marketable event that clubs can get excited about. It’s a great event that will help clubs earn publicity, build awareness and recruit new members.
The event also is a chance for the incoming club boards and the outgoing club boards to collaborate and CKI Service Week can serve as a celebratory event.
In the Kiwanis family, CKI members perform the most community service hours per member and CKI Service Week is a chance to highlight this on college campuses and college communities around the world.
